What are the basic requirements?
- Your article must be original of course!
- No AI-generated content (We use a detection tool to verify)
- Your article must be written in simple English, no complex words/phrases and jargon. When we read your article, we should feel like you’re sitting across from us in the living room having a real conversation
- Check that what you want to write about has not already been covered. (use a site:startupsilicon.com Google search or use the search option on website). If we’ve already covered it, but you feel you still have something to say on the subject that we’ve not yet covered, please let us know in your pitch exactly how your angle will be different & why it’ll rank for a different set of keywords
- Be sure you’ve cleared your topic with us and we’ve agreed before starting your research
- Once your article is drafted, share your draft with us via Google Docs and we’ll review it in 7 to 10 days and leave comments/feedback in the Google Docs
- After we’ve locked in the final draft, we’ll get to work publishing your article
How long should your guest post be?
At least 1,500 words. In most cases we recommend quite a bit longer. (We see that articles with 2,500 – 4,000 words tend to perform best on our platform).
There are exceptions to this rule—if you want to submit a guest post that you believe is better expressed in less than 1,500 words just let us know the reasoning and we’ll consider.
How many links back to your own site can you insert?
2 relevant editorial links to your own site that add value to the reader. No landing pages or promotional pages unless you clear them with us first (please give us your reasoning). If you feel strongly that you deserve an exception to the 2 links in-content rule, make your case before submitting a final draft to us.
How many internal and external links can you insert?
External links:
We don’t have a hard limit here, but know that we’ve been doing this for 10+ years and immediately know when a link is contextually relevant and provides value to the article vs a link that’s been added for link building purposes.
- Is this link relevant to the main topic, and does it add value to the reader?
- Generally, we prefer links to authoritative sites with an Ahrefs DR of 40+. If you have a compelling reason to link to a site with a lower DR, please call out the link with a comment in your Google Doc draft and share your reasoning.
- Please link to statistics, research, and other authoritative sources. Always aim to link to the original source, rather than sites that simply quote the stat.
Again, please refrain from stuffing your guest post with links to other sites for link building purposes. It’s just going to lead our editorial team to reject your guest post. Unless external links are very relevant and add unique value to your post, know that we reserve the right to remove any links and am not shy about rejecting guest posts that seem suspect.
Internal links:
Again, no hard limit here. Be sure the internal links are relevant and add value to the article.
Why was your guest post not accepted?
We care first and foremost about our readers, and if we feel that your guest post isn’t relevant or doesn’t provide enough value to them, we might reject your pitch even if it’s great.
